The Stars above allow us to lose ourselves in their magnitude and broaden our dreams and hopes. If we can enjoy the oldest, everlasting view we have from Earth just by looking up at the night sky, we should be ever grateful for the gift. The Stars rule the universe, and they are spread far and wide throughout the many varied galaxies out there. Without the stars, our Solar System would not have evolved and we would not exist!
Stars are a part of every culture. They have been utilized for religious practices, air, land and sea navigation and orientation purposes, the world’s calendar, and of course, astrology and astronomy. Man has pondered for years about the Stars in the night sky. Ancient rock carvings found proves man was studying them over five thousand years ago. Modern astrologers consider stars to be similar in matter, energy and light, just like our Sun. Stars have been studied for thousands of years, and these heavenly bodies have been influencing mankind since ancient times.
The Stars have been around for billions of years and there are literally billions of them. We do not know exactly how many; the actual answer could well be infinite, as many new stars are constantly created as the old ones burn out. The bigger a star, the shorter its lifespan. The largest types of Stars burn out after around one million years, while the smaller Stars burn their internal fuel slowly. Small Stars can live for hundreds of billions of years. Many of the stars out there are between 1 and 10 billion years old. Some Stars may well be close to 14 billion years old, as old as we can best define the age of the universe. There are also giant Stars out there, even one which is about 25 billion kilometers across.
