The Lunar Year is based on the cycles of the moon. One complete cycle takes 60 years, made up of 5 cycles of 12 years each. Ancient Chinese civilizations have believed the Moon to be a major life influence since ancient times. If it could effect and control earth's tidal patterns, surely it could influence people! Even though the Chinese accepted the Western calendar in 1911, they still publish calendars incorporating both the Eastern Zodiac and Western Astrology today.
