The Bull

The symbol for Taurus is The Bull. The Bull as a symbol represents the head and the horns of a Bull. It signifies a sturdy approach to life, and is well suited to the life attitude of those born under Taurus. The Bull, just like many Taureans, reflects strength, power, stamina, and resolution!

According to one popular legend, Zeus became infatuated with Europa, the daughter of King Agenor and Queen Telephassa. Zeus figured that the best way to attract the attention of Europa, was to place himself within her environment. He knew that he would have to capture her eye once he was there, and decided the best way was to use a disguise so she would not recognize him. He used his transformation abilities to turn his appearance into that of a brilliant white Bull, decorated with pearly white horns, and a sparkling silver moon on his forelock.

The disguised Zeus positioned himself within the herd of cattle, owned by King Agenor, where he knew Europa would notice him. When Europa arrived to the field, she immediately noticed this outstanding creature that she had never before seen. She was instantly drawn to its majestic features and rushed to it. When she arrived at the White Bull, it knelt down on its forelegs so she could climb onto its back. Upon capturing his beautiful maiden of desire, Zeus wasted no time in jumping to his feet, and flying away to Crete with Europa on his back.

. ...

Upon arriving at Crete, Zeus made Europa his mistress, and proclaimed that all the land she could see before her was now hers. This land eventually became known as Europe. As a gesture of appreciation to The Bull, Zeus placed its image amongst the heavenly stars above, to graze peacefully, and protect the cattle in his herd. The Bull still resides in the night skies today, and is the respective constellation for Taurus.

It is important to note that The Bull has been worshipped by many ancient civilizations. It has been held in high esteem by Greeks, Persians, Assyrians and Egyptians. The Bull has also been associated with many of the majestic Bulls of Antiquity. The Sacred White Bull of Siva is still revered with the highest respect in India today!
