Symbols may not be at the front of our thoughts that often, but they have been a definitive source of communication since early mankind. Often the association with a symbol was all early man needed. A sign representing an idea or an object was all it took to communicate.
Skeptics may well dismiss
the whole symbolism concept as unimportant in today's world,
but to dismiss a part of our earliest communications
too easily could also prove to be naive. If we
were to dismiss other parts of our Ancient cultures,
our world simply would not be what it is today!
It makes sense that symbols became a part of
our universal language. After all, they did help
to create generations long ago. Symbols represent
a core part of our development and are still
used on a daily basis today!
Given the ancients respect and values placed on the planets, it is not surprising that symbols were created to represent what were considered the heavenly bodies within the universe. Some astronomy symbols we have today are so ancient, it is not fully understood just how they evolved. In fact, these symbols are amongst the oldest mankind has ever known!
The symbols of the planets represent a variety of characteristics and influences from each of the planets. From the confidence of Jupiter, to the beauty of Venus, each planet has been given its own symbolic meaning.
