The symbol for Pisces is the Two Fish. The Two Fish as a symbol represents two fish swimming in opposite directions. It signifies a receptive approach to life, and is well suited to the life attitude of those born under Pisces. The Fish, just like many Pisces, reflect unity, mysticism, understanding, honesty, and emotion!

The Ancients looked upon The Fish as representative of the dual nature within the constellation, showing opposite attributes that are joined together forever. It was believed the eastern fish symbolized the ability to rise to the heavens and spiritual worlds, whilst the western fish would travel to a more earthy perspective. When viewed as the two crescent moons, they symbolized the ability to transcend to a higher level of consciousness within the subconscious mind.
Roman legend tells of Venus and her son Cupid, who were surprised by an Egyptian dragon devil, Typhon. In order to escape the fire breathing creature chasing them, they jumped into the sea, where upon both Venus and Cupid transformed into fish and traveled down the Euphrates.
Similarly, the Greek version tells of a story about Aphrodite, the Goddess of Beauty, and her son, Eros, the God of Love. As the legend goes, they were strolling along a river bank when the ferocious dragon monster, Typhon, rose out of the water in order to attack and kill them. It was said he was enormous in stature and had the strength of the Olympians. Added to this, his eyes could shoot flames, and his hands were made of one hundred dragons instead of fingers. No warrior God was thought capable of destroying him, so the most common defense used, was to transform themselves into an animal so as not to draw his attention. Aphrodite and Eros jumped into the river, where they were transformed by the river nymphs into fish, so they could swim to safety. The image of the two fish was then placed in the stars, as a commemoration of the moment when the principles of Love and Beauty were saved from certain destruction. With this final constellation in place, it was believed the entire cosmos was restored. In accordance with Greek mythology, no monster of any size would consider taking on the power of the Gods now they were in a balanced cosmic order. The final constellation marked the moment, when love became an almighty source of strength.
Another legend explains that the story of Pisces was influential in the birth of the Goddess Istar. It was considered that an egg fell from the moon into the Euphrates River. Upon its entry, two fish managed to push it to the side of the river, where upon it hatched, and the Goddess was born. As a mark of thanks, their images were placed amongst the stars.

Pisces was symbolized as the Two Fish by the majority of the ancient world, including the Babylonians, the Persians, the Turkish and the Syrians. This remained the majority belief, until Christianity came along 2000 years ago (when the equinox point moved through the first fish in the constellation), and claimed its symbol for their God Christ, who was also referred to as Jesus, and the Fisher of Men.
Of all the twelve constellations, Pisces has presented the most difficulties for
modern mythologists. The constellation was misplaced
for over two thousand years, with no real answer
as to why. It was only reinstated to its correct
place in the eighth century AD, by Arabic astronomers.
Many consider that the answers to this riddle
and many others lay in the great library of Alexandria,
which was burnt to the ground, along with all
the major culturally influential works of art
and astrological workings ever collected. The
majority of mythologists therefore have to refer
to the wisdom of the ancient Babylonians!
