It is not surprising that the Rat was the first on the scene to hear Buddha's calling for the animals. Someone had to lead the way and grab the glory after all! Rats simply sniff out opportunities and are adept at making the best of them. The shrewd Rat simply used the Ox to gather all the other animals, played them all accordingly, and was the first to arrive at Buddha's feet, ensuring its number one status! Rats are simply calculating! It is in their nature to take full advantage of their skills!

Rats are super ingenious, efficient, self reliant, and sometimes quite magical. They are also curious and like to know what is going on! They are social creatures who seek information, and sometimes use this new found knowledge to their advantage. Rats are not concerned with keeping secrets unless they are their own. They would rather gain some advantage by having the inside word. They are also quite flexible when they need to be. It appears they can adapt to any environment and perform admirably!

Rats exercise a superb self control when in a tight situation. They do not like to show their vulnerable side when cornered. Make no mistake, the Rat will exit swiftly and silently, retreat and configure, then act only if it is deemed worthwhile. In any emergency, follow a Rat! They will already have an escape plan in place. They are experts in the art of survival!

Rats can be very quick to judge situations and people, but they can also be just as tough when being self critical. They need to rest every now and then, to step back, revitalize, and clarify what it is they really need to attain. If too complex and edgy, Rats can worry unnecessarily whilst still taking on more projects at the same time. Always working it seems!

Rats are diligent achievers who love to accumulate simply because they can! It is what they do! They also like to have some extra security hidden away for emergencies and rainy days. When they learn that enough is really plenty, their ambition and caution should serve them well!

Rats may well enjoy material gain, but they do like to share it with those closest to them. They are extremely generous to those they love and care for! Rats are quite protective and enjoy the union of family. Business is business, but family comes first and a happy home is a priority!
