Planet Jupiter's surface is protected by a unique atmosphere of color changing and violent gases. It is also subject to titanic storms that would consume a planet like ours a few times over. Some of these storms have gone on for over 300 years. One of the most notable components of this planet is its 'Red Spot', an ongoing and turbulent storm, which drags in many meteors from up to 7 million kilometers away. Jupiter commands the strongest magnetic field of all the planets, and together with The Sun, it holds two asteroid groups known as 'The Trojans' in its orbit.
Jupiter is the largest and second brightest of the planets in our solar system. It is about 130 times the size of planet Earth. In mass terms, it is over 300 times the size. It is without a doubt the heavyweight of our Solar System, second only to the Sun. It is so huge in fact, it constitutes more than 70 percent of the mass of the planets. It is by far the most powerful planet in our Solar System! It makes perfect sense that it was named after the biggest and most influential ancient god of all time! Its many moons were all named after Jupiter's many lovers. Such a fitting recognition for the most powerful of all the universal Gods in ancient history!
A day on Jupiter is about half the length of Earths, and its orbit of the Sun takes about 12 Earth years. It planetary axis spins faster than any other planet, and its surface is subject to winds exceeding 400 kilometers an hour. It controls it own orbit, has its own unique system of rings, and controls at least 16 moons. Four of these moons are as large as small planets. Some are covered with ice, and may well have living organisms living in oceans underneath their icy exteriors. It is quite possible in reality, because Jupiter supplies its own energy source to these moons.
Jupiter projects more energy than it receives from the Sun. The
big difference is that Jupiter's energy is radioactive.
It would kill a human within minutes. However,
nature has shown us over the years on our own
planet, that the creation of life is dependant
on and adaptable to sources of energy supplied.
We got used to the Sun, so for all we know, this
could be one place to explore to find other alien
life forms. One thing is certain however, without
Jupiter's magnetic force, many planets,
especially Earth, could well have been wiped
out by rogue asteroids millions of years
ago.
