One
of the most powerful historical facts of our
time is the following one; The Sun
has been the most worshipped of all the Gods
ever! It makes perfect sense that we
have respected The Sun so very highly since
mankind's arrival. It played a major
role in our creation after all, and it has
always been the strongest, most reliable
influence we have ever had!
Many prehistoric and ancient cultures understood the Sun to be a supreme and heavenly God. It was considered as a perfect ball of fire created by the Gods, that gave us day and night. Worshipping the Sun was an integral necessity by many ancient civilizations such as the Incas and the Aztecs. The many monuments dedicated to the Sun show clearly just how strong this belief has been held. Examples of such dedication can also be found in Egypt, Greece, Nabta Playa, Stonehenge and Mexico.
The Egyptians believed their Sun, Ra, entered the underworld by night and travelled the skies during the day. Germanic mythology believed it to be their God, Sol, as did the Norse. The Greeks praised Apollo, Shamash was praised by the Mesopotamians, as was Surya worshipped in Indian astrology. In Chinese astrology, the Sun represents the positive Yang, and in Japanese mythology, it was revered as the Goddess Amaterasu. The Mahabharata worship its warrior hero, Karna, as being the son of Kunti and the Sun. Sun worship is also extremely popular in South America.
There have been many ceremonial songs and ritual dances performed in worship to The Sun. In the Vedas, they have them as part of the cultural worship to their Sun, Surya, as well as Savitar. Even one of the most sacred of Hindu hymns, the Gayatri Mantra, is dedicated to The Sun. Some Hindus also celebrate the ritual of Sandhyavandanam in worship to The Sun, and the Brahmana period worships their own group of Sun Gods, The Adityas. The Ramayana also consider their Rama to be from the group of Kings that shines as bright as The Sun.
Sun worship is universal! Every day when we notice its presence in the skies above, it is influencing a vast majority of different cultures in many different ways. Our Sun is without any doubt one of the most important influences to our Earth! There is nothing as consistent or as powerful in our solar system, and there never will be! So it should be respected so highly!
